Crestor® and other statins are two medications that contain two different active ingredients – rosuvastatin (Crestor) and rosuvastatin calcium (Crestor).
A statin works by stopping the body from making cholesterol. It does this by blocking the production of a bad enzyme in the liver that helps remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream.
Statins, like Crestor, do not cause as many side effects as statins do. They do, however, have fewer serious side effects than Crestor does.
Crestor is a brand name for the statin rosuvastatin. In clinical trials, Crestor has been shown to cause fewer gastrointestinal side effects than Crestor and similar medications.
It is important to speak to your doctor before taking Crestor if you have:
You should not take Crestor if you are allergic to rosuvastatin or other ingredients in Crestor.
Crestor works by reducing a certain enzyme within the body that produces cholesterol. It belongs to a class of medications called statins.
Cholesterol is a form of lipid, a waxy substance that helps your body make cells, vitamins, and certain hormones. It is not inherently bad. Your liver produces an enzyme that synthesizes cholesterol to help with the above healthy functions. Additional cholesterol is introduced to the body through certain foods like meat, poultry, and dairy products.
There are two types of cholesterol: high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) and low-density lipoproteins (LDLs). LDLs carry cholesterol throughout the body, delivering cholesterol to cells that need it. HDLs carry excess LDLs back to the liver, where they are broken down and flushed from the body. While LDLs play a key role in cell health, they build up when the body has more cholesterol than the cells need. This buildup turns into plaque in the arteries (blood vessels). As plaque covers the artery walls, the blood vessels become narrow. This makes it harder for blood to flow through the body, which can lead to heart disease and heart failure.
Statins work by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, which lowers the overall cholesterol levels in the body. Not only do statins decrease levels of LDLs in the body, but they can also raise the level of HDLs in the body. In effect, they keep the body from making too much of the “bad” cholesterol that builds up in arteries while increasing the amount of “good” cholesterol that carries the “bad” out of the body. This dual action has been shown, along with diet and exercise, to lower overall cholesterol levels in patients effectively.
Crestor (Rosuvastatin) is an effective medicine used to treat high cholesterol in patients aged 2 years and older. It's also used to lower levels of LDLs in those with certain conditions known as “hard-hingying” cholesterol. In this regard, rosuvastatin is the same drug used to treat plaque build-up in the arteries, and it works by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, which lowers levels of LDLs in those with hard-hinging.Benefits:
How to use:
The recommended dose of rosuvastatin is one tablet per day, which can be taken with or without food. However, the doctor may adjust the dosage according to the patient's response to the medicine. The amount of medicine that the patient should take may vary depending on the severity of the medicine's side effects and other factors. To be sure the medicine's effects are as good as what the manufacturer's published in a health information journal, the drug's health information information provider must consult with the doctor and pharmacist.
Dosage of rosuvastatin:
The daily dose of rosuvastatin should be taken at least one hour before or after food. This medication is known as a statin. Taking a statin with food may decrease the chance of a serious side effect. To be careful, the doctor may take a dose lower than the recommended one.
Warnings:
To be sure rosuvastatin is the same drug used to treat plaque build-up in the arteries, the doctor should have the same levels of cholesterol in the blood with the same doctor.
